Jo CarpignanoJo Carpignano writes fiction, poetry and memoirs. Born in San Francisco, she attended San Francisco State University and earned degrees in education, pupil services and psychology. After serving as an elementary school teacher for many years, she becme a School Psychologist and specialist for children with special needs. At U.C. Berkeley Jo received a doctorate in Educational Psychology and practiced statewide. Upon retirement, Jo has produced a biography of her immigrant Italian mother, Madeline's Story (2005), and a book of poetry, Paper Wings and Other Things (2015). With wide experience in the field education and child development, Jo brings her experiences with children in public schools to weave the story of a gifted child with fierce determination who finds a way to escape abject poverty and parental abuse.
