Jerry Gietka

Jerry GietkaMy name is Jerry Gietka. In addition to credits listed within, I have also had local talk radio shows where I talked about local Arts & Entertainment. I interviewed the heads of the MD Arts Council, the MD Film Commission, the Walter's Art Museum, Ceter Stage, among others. I have also interviewed the deans of several local Universities that built or want to build local arts centers. I have occasionally co-hosted local cable TV shows for BAL CITY public access as well as Anne Arundel County public access. Neither of these were scripted but rather improvisational. I won a Telly award for one of those shows.I have been performing in local theatre for many years and have appeared at most of the local community theatres in MD/DC/NOVA as well as some professional stages. All together I have acted or directed in over 100 shows, over 1,000 performances.I am retired from State service where (among other positions) I was a Program Manager for the MD Department of the Environment. In my state service I drafted and authored both regulatory and statutory language that was incorporated into the MD Code.I designed and taught a graduate level course leading to a Master's degree in Environmental Management at the University of MD University College (now UMGC). I taught in the classroom for many years. Then I redesigned the course for on-line delivery in their distance learning program.Prior to that I had a career managing in the Transportation industry and also worked for the USDOT as an adjunct instructor. I have a fairly broad and unique perspective having had experience in the private and public sectors as well as academia. I can usually speak knowledgably about most subjects. Hopefully, that is a factor of exposure and not necessarily age.I have years of experience in the private sector managing both administrative and operations functions prior to entry into State service. I started with the Department of the Environment in September, 1990 and retired in June 2005. I was initially hired to be the Program Manager for the Hazardous Materials program. Reorganizations since that time led to opportunities to be involved in the Hazardous Waste Program, the Superfund Program, the Solid Waste Program, Emergency Response and Lead Poisoning Prevention. I was responsible for program activities involving the development of regulations, statutory amendments, and general permits.I also had responsibility for Low-Level Radioactive Waste. I was often called on to answer policy questions in these areas, both in writing as a response to citizen and legislative inquiries and answering telephone inquiries. My writing skills are excellent, probably attributable to my undergraduate degree in English.Summary: I have always had ability to exercise initiative in the workplace. When given a final goal, I usually need no further direction for methods development, resource, and time management and whatever else may be required to accomplish the mission. My experience and education in industry, government and academia give me a unique perspective and talent for dealing with the various constituencies. Read More Read Less
