Jeffrey Roy ByrneJeffrey Byrne's father was an engineer and served his time as a Toolmaker so the author was always interested in things mechanical and how they worked, how easily they could be taken apart, and how his dad could always be relied upon to put them backtogether again when the going got tough. The thrill of looking under his bed by torchlight and finding that Santa Claus had brought him a Meccano set is with him to this day. Gaining an apprenticeship in Meccano's Toolroom was a dream come true but, in his schoolboy innocence, he had no idea of the implications of working in a large factory whose workforce consisted mainly of a huge number of females! Once he started work, his education concerning the opposite sex went ahead with break-neck speed. Leaving city life and the world of industry, the author now lives in a canal-side cottage in Shropshire with his family and a big black rescue dog, of mainly Irish Wolfhound lineage, called Lentil.
