The thrill of looking under his bed by torchlight and finding that Santa Claus had brought him a Meccano set is with him to this day. Gaining an apprenticeship in Meccano's Toolroom was a dream come true but, in his schoolboy innocence, he had no idea of the implications of working in a large factory whose workforce consisted mainly of a huge number of females! Once he started work, his education concerning the opposite sex went ahead with break-neck speed. Leaving city life and the world of industry, the author now lives in a canal-side cottage in Shropshire with his family and a big black rescue dog, of mainly Irish Wolfhound lineage, called Lentil.
