Jason RainsI was born in West Central Illinois in 1978. I was raised in a family that owned bars and restaurants. I was taught how to cook by my grandmother. There was no barbeque to speak of, but I could make some mean goulash or fried chicken. I bought my firt grill at 22 and started grilling any piece of meat I could get a hold of. My career started with 24 years in the retail world. I was still cooking and learning new techniques. I moved to Oklahoma in 2011 and bought my first smoker shortly after. I was very intrigued by smoking meat. I decided to try competitive cooking and BBQ in 2013. That was when Pretty Good at Drinking Beer BBQ was formed. We have competed in countless BBQ competitions. I have also qualified for the SCA World Finals twice and competed in the World Food Championships. In 2021 I went to work for Oklahoma Joe Davidson. I started as his Retail Manager in the new concept (Oklahoma BBQ Supply). Shortly after I also took on the General Manager role at one of Oklahoma Joe's restaurants. I have taught over 18 classes that include cooking everything from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. This year we also started our own line of BBQ sauces and rubs.
