Janice LawNarrative nonfiction American Evita: Lurleen Wallace, is Judge Janice Law's sixth book. She aspires to adapting American Evita into a musical theater production featuring Governor Lurleen, patterned after the Broadway musical Evita, but featuring coutry and western music. Law is a retired Texas criminal court judge, a 14-year print journalist, a newspaper travel columnist, and the author of six books, one of which was a 2007 nonfiction finalist for the Texas Book Award. A partial listing of these venues includes: three consecutive times (2005, 2006, 2007) at the National Press Club's annual Book Fair, one of Washington D.C.'s most prestigious literary events; Library of Congress (2012 podium speaker); St. Peters-burg Times Festival of Reading (2007 podium speaker; twice panelist 2007, 2010); Virginia Festival of Books Charlottesville; C-Span Book TV featured on two short videos aired repeatedly; Texas Book Festival (2007); annual meeting Texas Bar (2006 literary panel); National Association of Women Judges, (2013 panel and speaker), Washington, D.C. Law and her husband Don Jansen also won two Tellys in 2002 for best music and lyrics. Tellys are statuette awards for television commercials equivalent to Emmys. Law still sits occasionally in Texas as a visiting judge, for judges who are ill or on vacation. Law has served as a state and federal prosecutor, a staff attorney to federal judges, and done nine years of indigent criminal defense.
