Janet LewisJanet Lewis was born in Chicago in 1899. In 1922, she published her first volume of poetry, The Indians in the Woods. Lewis' first novel was The Invasion: A Narrative of Events Concerning the Johnston Family of St. Mary's (1932). She maried author Yvor Winters in 1926, with whom she founded Gyroscope (1929-1931), an influential literary journal that served as center for a group led by Winters. She continued to write poetry throughout her life. She is best known for her historical fiction and is also the author of a volume of short fiction. She taught creative writing and literature courses at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley. Janet Lewis died in 1998, at the age of 99. Read More Read Less
