Janelle VargoI never thought I would have my rainbow. In 2017 when I became pregnant for the 3rd time, it was very difficult to be happy. I had been here before and gotten my hopes up. I had seen the rain and the sun peeking out from behind the clouds... and my rinbow never came. I felt like I was always behind a window looking at others who had what I was not good enough to have. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I needed to DO or BE in order to be worthy of MY rainbow. Meanwhile, I found myself. I found my talents and confidence. I found my empathy toward others and their possible hidden fears and doubts. I found my strength and even my happiness. I found purpose in my life and came out from behind the window to enjoy my rain. I wrote You can't buy a Rainbow toward the end of my pregnancy, in the hope that my rainbow was coming. This was my poem, my reminder to myself that I had not only braved the storm, but I had found a way to live in it and love it. I never intended for anyone else to read it. A few days before I delivered Valkyrie, I was admitted to the hospital with a complication. While I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing, my husband evidently found my rainbow writing and read it. When all was clear and we were settled enough to talk, he asked me who wrote the rainbow story. This is when I decided I needed to share it. I illustrated this book using watercolor paintings that our daughter, Valkyrie, painted when she was one and two years old. I hope this book reminds you that whatever rainbow you are waiting on is worth the wait, but your happiness does not have to be put on hold. I currently write and illustrate for my company, Two Birds LLC, as well as contract with other companies for families and children on a regular basis. I teach art and creative writing classes and publish our group works for other kids to enjoy and be inspired from. I was an intervention Specialist for 12 years and wrote for my students. My first book, Little Suzie, was inspired by my students with disabilities who felt little doing every day tasks until we found the right accommodations for them.
