James W FatherreeJames has been an aquarium hobbyist since childhood and has been a marine aquarist and avid scuba diver for three decades. In the past, he also managed a retail aquarium store and owned and operated an aquarium design, installation, and maintenance bsiness. He spent a summer working as a diver/collector for an aquarium livestock wholesaler, too. Since then, James has written and photo-illustrated a half-dozen books on the topics of reef organisms and marine aquariums including Giants Clams in the Sea and the Aquarium (2006) and Giant Clams in the Reef Aquarium (2019). He has also had nearly 500 articles and countless photographs published in various scuba and aquarium magazines in the U.S. and Europe and has given over 50 educational presentations at conferences and aquarium society meetings. Aside from all his aquatic interests and experiences, James served as an Army paratrooper, earned bachelor's and master's degrees in geology (specializing in invertebrate paleontology), and taught English in southern Japan for two years.
