James O MoreheadJames Otis Morehead is the senior pastor at Pasadena Heights Church of God in Indianapolis, Indiana. After 32 years, he retired as a tenured professor from Anderson University in Anderson, University. His teaching career began in 1969 in Oklahoma Cit, Oklahoma at John F. Kennedy Jr. and Northwest Classen high schools. In 1979, he was an Assistant Professor of Theater and Speech at his alma mater Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana where he also directed plays, designed sets, sound, and lighting for campus productions. Morehead became Chair of the Theater Department at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas in 1982. He was the first African-American to receive a master's degree in Speech and Theater from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. While an undergraduate student at Grambling State, Morehead majored in Speech and Theater Education, performing in most of the campus plays, building scenery, and designing lights and sound. He was awarded "Best Actor" three times, and in 1968 won the "Outstanding Senior in Theater" award. He was introduced to the world of theater at age 14 at M. H. Carroll High School in Monroe, Louisiana where he fell in love with Shakespeare who wrote that "the play is the thing," and for Morehead, there were no truer words. Morehead says acting saved his life and brought him out of his introverted shell, and with costumes and makeup, he could become anyone the playwright created. He became somewhat of a high school celebrity because of his skilled acting.
