James KhongDr James Khong retired in 2017 after fifty years in medical practice. He was born in Kuala Lumpur to a traditional Chinese family. He attended secondary school in Melbourne and graduated in medicine at Monash University. James had a varied medical caeer beginning in accident and emergency medicine. He was appointed as director in Accident & Emergency and served in three different hospitals. For personal reasons he moved to Phillip Island and was the local medical practitioner. After more than a decade James returned to Melbourne and was a general practitioner until his retirement in 2017. In general practise James became a convert to functional medicine with an emphasis on finding and treating the root cause of disease rather than treating the symptoms with medications that suppress the body's natural functions. Since retiring, he is active as a health philosopher, specialising in stress management and natural healing. He is a regular guest speaker at health and lifestyle events. Besides medicine James was involved with the film industry through a close friendship with the late film director Paul Cox. He also sat on the Board of the Australian Film Institute. He was also founder and director of Applause Art Gallery and was active with the Australian Chinese Medical Association and served as President in 2000.
