James ButcherThe author was born in Bergoo, West Virginia in 1933. At age 17 he joined the Army and served during the Korean War, fighting in the first battle of Pork Chop Hill. After military service he went on to earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and served a a professor and later Director of the clinical psychology program at the University of Minnesota.
