James Alan RileyJAMES ALAN RILEY is the author of Broken Frequencies, a book of poems (Shadelandhouse Modern Press, 2019). He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a 2023 Artists Relief and Disaster Recovery Grant from the Kentucky Arts Cuncil (funded by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts), the 2020 Thomas and Lillie D. Chaffin Award for Excellence in Appalachian Literature, two Al Smith Fellowships from the Kentucky Arts Council, and an Individual Artists Fellowship from the Ohio Arts Council. He edited Kentucky Voices: A Collection of Contemporary Kentucky Short Stories (PC Press, 1999) and was the founding editor of The Pikeville Review (1988-1999). He is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Pikeville where he taught creative writing for 35 years. He lives in Pikeville, Kentucky, with his wife Tammy and their grandson Kaden.
