Not a Fairy Tale draws on her own life experience, with much of the dialogue built from things actually said to her, though the heroine's responses ae often things she wishes in hindsight she had been strong enough to reply. Jacalyn wrote Not a Fairy Tale both to heal and to be a tool of healing for others. She hopes her writing may provide fuel for others through survival to thriving, as well as ignite a flame in those in a position to support those struggling.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Jacalyn now lives in North Central Alberta with her husband, their cats, and her dragons.
