Jaap J M Van Der MeerJaap JM van der Meer obtained a BSc, MSc and PhD at the University of Amsterdam, where he stayed until moving to London in 2000. He was Professor of Physical Geography until he retired in 2011. Prof van der Meer specializes in glacial processes and rsulting landforms and sediments (transfer and temporary storage). Specifically focusing on glacial sediments, especially in thin sections and dynamic structures like push moraines. Prof van der Meer has published widely on these topics, including two co-edited volumes since retirement. His research is embedded in international work, encompassing collaboration with colleagues from most continents and fieldwork ranging from the Arctic to the Antarctic. He has co-hosted MSc training courses in London, nine international workshops for the micromorphology of glacial sediments for PhD students and Postdocs and also set up the Centre for Micromorphology at the University of London.
