J L KoenigProfessor Koenig received his B.A. in Chemistry and Mathematics from Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota in 1955. His Ph.D. in Theoretical Spectroscopy was granted in 1959 by the University of Nebraska. After receiving his Ph.D., Dr Koenig was empoyed as a research chemist in the Plastics Department at E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company in Wilmington, Delaware, from 1959 to 1963. In 1963, Dr Koenig became an Associate Professor. In 1979, Dr Koenig was promoted to Professor in the Department of Macromolecular Science at Case Western Reserve University and was awarded the Donnell Institute Endowed Chair in 1990. Dr Koenig has received many awards and honors during his career: in 1984, he received the prestigious Pittsburgh Society Spectroscopy Award. In 1986 he won the Alexander Von Humboldt Award for Senior US scientists and spent a year in Germany as a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Freiburg. In 1991 he received the Society of Plastics Engineers Research Award. In 1992 he received the Gold Medal of the Eastern Analytical Society. In 1993 he won the Bomem-Michelson Award. In 1994 he was awarded the George Stafford Whitby Award by the ACS Rubber Division. In 1995 he was designated an Honorary Member of the Society of Applied Spectroscopy. In 1996, he received the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) Education Award. In 1997 he received the ACS Phillips Award in Applied Polymer Science.
