J ClarkeJoyce was born in England and migrated to Australia with her parents and two older brothers at the age of seven. She enjoyed her time in two different migrant hostels until her dad was finally able to find a job, which also came with a house. She attnded the local primary school and then secondary school and received a studentship that paid for her university fees towards earning a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma of Education. Her active curiosity and scientific mind led her to major in physics. She then went on to teach math and science. She is currently happily married and the mother of two adult children.
