J a GriffenJ. A. Griffen has a passion for the story of his native Nebraska, particularly during the Territorial era. His research has taken him from the British Library all the way to Salt Lake City. He has taken a special interest in pioneer diaries that havenever before been utilized or compared with one another. In the Spring of 2009 he traveled the original pioneer route from Charlestown, Massachusetts to Florence, Nebraska. As a part of this journey he walked across the state of Iowa pulling a handcart, a journey that spanned 27 days and 260 miles.
