Hassanal AbdullahHassanal Abdullah, a Bangladeshi-American poet, translator, and critic. He is the author of more than 43 books in various genres including CONTEMPORARY BANGLADESHI POETRY (Cross-Cultural Communications/New Feral Press of Oyster Bay, 2019), SWATANTRA ONNETS (Cross- Cultural Communications/The Feral Press of Oyster Bay, 2017), UNDER THE THIN LAYERS OF LIGHT (Cross- Cultural Communications, 2015), and SHABDAGUCHHA: THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY ISSUE (Cross-Cultural Communications, 2013). He was awarded the Homer European Medal of Poetry & Art, the Labubhai Foundation Award (2013), and was an honorable mention of Queens Borough Poet Laureate in 2007. He has translated Charles Baudelaire, Anna Akhamatova, Stanley Kunitz, Stanley H. Barkan, Nazim Hikmet, Nicanor Parra, Wislawa Szymborska, and Gerald Stern, and many more into Bengali, and more than 30 Bengali poets into English. His own poetry has been translated into ten different languages. Mr. Abdullah is a NYC high school math teacher and the editor of an international bilingual poetry magazine, Shabdaguchha, since 1998.
