Hans O TiefelHans O. Tiefel emigrated from Germany in 1949. Volunteering for the US Army secured US citizenship and veteran benefits for underwriting his education. Though raised in secular cultures, he was converted to the Christian faith during his Army years. ubsequently he earned degrees from Wake Forest University, Yale Divinity School, and Yale University (PhD). He taught religion and ethics at the College of Idaho and at William and Mary. His thirty years at W&M included two four-year terms as department chair.
