Gwen Nell WestermanGwenNell Westerman's roots are deep in the landscape of the tall grassprairie, and reveal themselves in her art and writing through thelanguages and traditions of her family. She is an enrolled member ofthe Sisseton Wahpeton DakotaOyate, her father's people, and acitizen of the Cherokee Nation, her mother's people. She is theco-author of MniSota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota whichwon a 2013 Minnesota Book Award, and a 2014 Hognander MinnesotaHistory Award. Gwen'spoems, essays, and short stories appear in numerous publications, including the NortonAnthology of Native Nations Poetry (2020); theMinnesota issue of Quiltfolk (January2020); and NewPoets of Native Nations (GraywolfPress, 2018). Her poetry collection Followthe Blackbirds (2013)was published by Michigan State University Press. Sheholds her BA and MA in English from Oklahoma State University, andPhD in English from the University of Kansas. She teaches Americanand Native Nations literatures, Technical Communication, andHumanities to undergraduate and graduate students at Minnesota StateUniversity, Mankato.
