Gurcharan RampuriGurcharan Rampuri was born at Rampur (Panjab) India in 1929. He started writing poetry in 1946. The first volume of his poems was published in 1953 which reached Moscow Library and 12 poems from it were translated into Russian to be included in an anhology published by Skate Publishing house of Artistic Literarture Moscow in 1957. He was the youngest of five living Panjabi poets included. The ages of the poets included ranged from 85 to 28 years. He earned his B.A. degree from Panjab University Chandigarh, India. He has published ten volumes of his poems. He immigrated to Canada in 1964 and earned his living working as a municipal clerk, cloth-merchant, journalist and electrical draftsman. He founded a Writers Association at Ranpur in 1953 and several writers organizations in Canada. He is active in Panjabi Writers Forum Vancouver and The Writers' Union of Canada. Rampuri has won many awards, and his poems have been translated into many languages. Many of his poems have been set to music and sung by well-known singers.
