Guiseppe GettoGuiseppe Getto is a Zen Buddhist, a poet, and an Assistant Professor of English at East Carolina University. Familiar History is his first chapbook. His individual poems can be found in journals such as Sugarhouse Review, Slant, Reed, Eclectica, Sant Clara Review, and Redactions, among others. Though poetry is definitely an avocation for him at this point, he has been writing poetry most of his life. Like many writers, he uses art to process a difficult upbringing. He was born and raised in rural Nevada, a landscape littered with nuclear fallout from above ground atomic testing, violent cowboys, and dysfunctional family systems, including his own. This landscape is largely the palette he continues to use in most of his work even though he has lived outside of it for many years now. He currently lives in North Carolina with his wife Jessica and their cat Jackie. There is far less nuclear fallout in North Carolina and the cowboys are milder, but there are about the same amount of dysfunctional family systems.
