This was my biggest challenge.I attended the Resource Management Assistant Program for a career in Fish & Wildlife, but due to budget cuts within the F&W department, I joined the Alberta Forestry Service. I began my duties as a patrolman issuing fire permits to the public for safe burning practices. After 32 years, I moved up the ladder and retired as a wildfire ranger. During my time with the government of Alberta, I have attended numerous wildfires. I was the representative for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area for the Junior Forest Rangers for 20 years when I retired. Achievements include being a billboard model for the prevention of wildfire, which was placed across the province of Alberta in 2004, and retiring from a career that many will not achieve.
