Gary OysterWhen he was a freshman at Lapeer High School in 1967, Gary Oyster was the manager for the school's varsity basketball team. Having access to the coaches' office where the basketball inflator was located, he noticed a note card pinned to the bulletin oard that read: NEW LEAGUE AINSWORTH CARMAN FENTON HOLLY LAPEER SWARTZ CREEK Little did he know that he would spend the next fifty years associated with that league as an athlete, coach, administrator and finally as the compiler of its fifty-year history. Gary lettered in cross country and track his junior and senior years at Lapeer. After graduating from Oakland University he became a social studies teacher at Lapeer East High School and White Junior High, coaching girls' track and boy's and girls' cross country at East. In 1986 Gary started a 17-year tenure as assistant principal and athletic director at Lapeer East. Upon retiring in 2003, the athletic directors of the Flint Metro League asked him to stay on as league treasurer, which soon morphed into a position as the league's executive director, where among other duties Gary oversaw the development of the league's website.
