Gary KnightProfessor Knight has extensive experience in international business in the private sector. In his position as Export Manager for a medium-sized enterprise, he directed the firm's operations in Canada, Europe, Japan, and Mexico, supervising the busines activities of some 50 distributors in these regions. Previously he worked for a leading manufacturer of electrical machinery at its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, and for the Japan office of the State of Washington. Following these experiences, Professor Knight obtained an MBA at the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. at Michigan State University, both in international business. Earlier degrees were in Finance and Modern Languages. He completed various export and international business seminars through the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration. He attended university in France and Japan, and speaks fluent French, Japanese, and Spanish. He has lived and worked in Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Japan, Spain, and Turkey. He was a Fulbright scholar at McGill University in Montreal. Currently, Professor Knight is Director of the Program in International Business at Florida State University. He developed the university's Study Abroad Programs in business in Britain, France, Japan, and Spain, as well as the university's online courses in international business. He has won several awards for research and teaching. His research emphasizes globalization, international business strategy, international small and medium-sized enterprises, and born-global firms. Professor Knight is a member of the Academy of International Business. He has authored four books and nearly one hundred refereed articles in academic journals and conference proceedings, including Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of International Marketing, and Management International Review.
