He is the author of The Politics of American Individualism (Greenwood, 1975), To Free A People (Greenwood, 1982), Pride, Prejudice, and Politics (Praege, 1991), FDR and the Bonus Marchers, 1933-1935 (Praeger, 1992), The Critical Press and The New Deal (Praeger, 1993), Nickel and Dime Decade (Praeger, 1993), as well as numerous essays for scholarly books and journals.
