Francis K WieseDr. Francis Wiese is a Senior Principal within Stantec's Environmental Services Group and serves as Stantec's Technical Leader for Marine Research. Francis brings 28 years of experience working in the coastal and marine environment throughout the word, designing, implementing, and managing large interdisciplinary, multi-institutional science programs in the Arctic, North Atlantic, North Pacific, Bering Sea, the Gulf of Alaska, and the Gulf of Mexico, with additional experience in the North Sea, Caribbean, Antarctic, and the Galapagos. Dr. Wiese has worked for and with academia, government, nonprofits, and industry, is a technical reviewer for over 20 international journals, and serves on a variety of national and international science panels, committees, and working groups. He has extensively focused on environmental impacts as a result of anthropogenic stressors, climate change, socio-ecological resiliency, system science, marine spatial planning, coastal erosion, marine shipping, environmental policy, and adaptive management. He recently contributed a book chapter focused on a vision for a sustainable Arctic, integrating key global steps across society that are needed to reach such a future. Francis believes that collaboration and communication is key and as such is a prolific public speaker that enjoys thinking outside the box to solve complex real-world issues.
