Fatima Sadiqi

Fatima SadiqiFatima Sadiqi is a Professor of Linguistics and Gender Studies, affiliated to Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, Fès, Morocco. She obtained her BA from Mohammed V University in Rabat and her MA and PhD from Essex University in England. In 1998, sh founded the first Moroccan Centre for Studies and Research on Women, and in 2000 she founded the first Graduate Program on Gender Studies, both structures still functioning at her university. In 2006, she founded the Isis Centre for Women and Development, and in 2018 she was elected President of the Association of Middle Eastern Studies, the first woman to be elected to this position from the Maghreb. Her books include Women, Gender and Language in Morocco (Brill, 2003), Women's Activism and the Public Sphere: Local/Global Linkages (Journal of Middle East Women's Studies, 2006), Women in the Middle East and North Africa: Agents of Change (Routledge, 2010), Moroccan Feminist Discourses (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), and Women's Movements in the Post - "Arab Spring" North Africa (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). Sadiqi's work has been supported by numerous prestigious awards and fellowships from Fulbright, Harvard University, The Woodrow Wilson Center, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the ZIF Center for Interdisciplinary Research (Germany).
