He has previously served as Head of the Department of Theology, Philosophy, and Religious Studies at Liverpool Hope University (2010-12), and worked for te Netherlands Research School for Medieval Studies (1994-2000). Trained by the late Heiko A. Oberman, and a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Tübingen, Saak's numerous publications include High Way to Heaven: The Augustinian Platform between Reform and Reformation, 1292-1524 (2002) and Creating Augustine: Interpreting Augustine and Augustinianism in the Later Middle Ages (2012).
