Emily Craven

Emily CravenEmily Craven was first inspired to placed pen to paper when she was 12, after she learnt her favourite author, Isobelle Carmody, began her first novel at 14. Emily finished the first draft of her fantasy and travel novel manuscripts while completing Bachelor of Science (Space Science and Astrophysics) at the University of Adelaide. So technically, she can claim to be an astrophysicist (stars), geophysicist (rocks) and writer (crazy). She writes YA fiction, Fantasy and nonfiction. Emily lives in Australia and yes, back when she was a teenager her high school had its own herd of Kangaroos. She's been to almost every continent (Africa being her weakness in continent-domination) and has the pretty photographs to prove it (though probably less professional then Madeline Cain...) . In 2010 Emily decided life wasn't interesting enough and decided trying to write a novel in a month. Definitely not insane enough to try writing a fantasy novel, she chose to do a comedy based in Facebook. She created a Facebook event and threw her plot line to the winds, asking her assortment of friends to give her their best ideas, which included chameleons, umbrella's called Laani, triplets, a transvestite dwarf book club and a group of disturbed university students. Emily sites November 2010 as the only month she could legitimately claim her hours on Facebook as research. An avid traveller and amateur photographer, Emily has travelled to New York City twice and plans to go back at least a dozen times more. All the photographs in this novel are taken by her. She plans to take Madeline all around the world, so stay tuned for the next Grand Adventure! THE SERIOUS STUFF Emily is an author, speaker, innovator and the creator of the Story City GPS app (www.storycity.com.au) which allows you to take part in a real-life choose your own adventure. Emily was the first person in the world to create real-life choose your own adventures and is the winner of the Brisbane City Council Innovation Award for her innovative storytelling projects. Emily has spoken to teenagers and teachers across Australia (keynotes, workshops and masterclasses) on ebooks, digital and multimedia storytelling and is the digital writer in residence at Brisbane State High School. She also on occasion podcasts her work; her latest is The Priori Podcast, a YA fantasy novel released a chapter a week on her website and iTunes (available at www.originalfantasy.com). She was previously the Digital Producer for if: book Australia (The institute for the future of the book) and QLD Writers Centre and has been featured in Money Magazine, Channel 7's 'The Great South East' and in various Courier Mail articles. You can find out more about her as an author at her E-book Revolution website (www.ebookrevolution.com.au). Read More Read Less
