Emilia Pardo Bazán Emilia Pardo Bazán (1851-1921) is considered by many scholars one of the most important writers of nineteenth-century Spain. Instrumental in introducing French naturalism and Russian spiritual realism into Spanish literature, she published twenty novls, twenty-one novellas, two cookbooks, seven plays, nearly six hundred short stories, and hundreds of essays.
