She began researching New York City's Great Depression after the discovery of her grandfather's archive of photographs ocumenting the Municipal Lodging House, where he was the superintendent. Through images from his collection, as well as from the New-York Historical Society and the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, she presents the faces of New York citizens dealing with poverty, unemployment, and homelessness during one of the worst economic times in recent history.
