Dorothea W McAlvinDorothea Whitaker McAlvin is a retired teacher (history and social studies at the secondary level). In the two decades since retirement, she has devoted time to family (husband, Carl, now deceased, three daughters, eight grandchildren), extended famiy, church, community, and to research and writing. She has authored another memoir, recently published, that was also based on family letters. A graduate of Young Harris College, with degrees from the Woman's College of Georgia and Georgia State University, she studied one year in France before beginning her teaching career, marrying, starting a family, and undertaking graduate studies. Hobbies and interests include reading, travel, local history, Bible and religious studies, Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and taking classes in all sorts of subjects through lifetime learning institutes.
