Diane IngramDiane Ingram is a retired professor of nursing who lives in Manotick, where the family arrived in 1950 when her father, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, was posted there from Edmonton, Alberta. At that time, it was a welcoming farming villag nestled along the scenic Rideau River. She recalls a road sign proclaiming a population of 500. Growth since then in the number of people choosing to call Manotick home makes it close to ten times as friendly now. Today, Manotick is a suburb of Canada's capital, Ottawa, Ontario. But the Tick remains a gem of rural life within the city. A place where, in a soon-to-be grateful post-pandemic world, friends will gather again on porches and patios to laugh and share Tick talk. A place where merchants know their clients by first names. A place like none other to those who cherish memories of its gentle past while embracing future possibilities. Diane is devoted to the under-privileged wherever she finds them, to animal advocacy, to the simple pleasures of nature, and to exploring the spiritual aspects of life. She treasures memories of her father, brother and husband while delighting in the next generations: Jason and Regan and her beloved grandkids, Keelyn and Connor. Stitches in the tapestry that these threads have woven over the past fifty years are recorded here in both prose and poetry as her gift to them, and to the many friends who asked and waited patiently for her to compile them.
