His job involved conducting natural resource inventories and assessing impacts of infrastructure development. He has published four botnical reference books and teaches courses in botany. He conducted plant and wildlife research in the Canadian Arctic and the Amazon Forest. He has had numerous outdoor adventures in Alaska and the American West, as well as scuba diving and fishing, both at sea and in inland waters.
