Dennis is also the founder of Grey Moose Leadership Group. As a leader, he has supervised the day-to-day activities an emergency responses of corrections staff. As a member of a Type III Incident Management Team, Dennis has responded to emergencies involving contaminated water incidents, computer system breeches, the Kilauea Volcano in Hawai'i, and Hurricane Florence in North Carolina. Professionally, Dennis has led teams in preplanned uses of force in the corrections setting, supported county jails in communities under threat of wildfires, and most recently, Dennis has been deployed in Washington State to assist with COVID-19 response. Much of his leadership experience has been in getting Type A personalities to get along and move in the same direction. He is also a volunteer at Dachshund Rescue NW, the dog rescue owned by his wife, Margo, who not only rescues and adopts dachshunds, but also horses, donkeys and recently a hamster Some of his proudest professional moments are helping to rescue the mistreated. Rescues also often end up helping families when they face life changes (divorce, military deployments, deaths in the family) that bring them to make choices that they do not want to make. In his spare time, Dennis enjoys bicycling, weightlifting, and spending time with his wife and dogs. So far his battle-tested leaderships skills have no effect on the dogs or wife.
