David HaywoodI am David R. Haywood, third oldest of ten children born to Wicks and Willie May Haywood on September 28, 1949, in Bolivar County, Mississippi. Growing up in the southland there was not much room for future ambitions. We attended Kansas Street School well, we should have been. Our days (my brother Freddie and myself) were spent chopping and picking cotton in Arkansas and Mississippi! After our family relocated to Chicago, shortly after becoming of age, Freddie joined the Marines. A few months later, I joined the Army and became a chef. After being honorably discharged from the Army, I reenlisted in the Navy, also as a chef. Today, I live with my wife in Arizona as a writer and continue to serve my community, cooking for the homeless, and working part time as a security guard. Read More Read Less
