David C K Tay

David C K TayDavid C. K. Tay (Class of 55) was born and raised in Keta and had his elementary education in the Eυe Presbyterian Church School. On passing his Common Entrance Examination, he was admitted to Mawuli School in January 1951, the second year of th School's founding.
With his interest in the art subject, it was no surprise that David was one of two art students who competed in designing the Mawuli crest with the 3H motto: Head, Heart, Hand. In his later years, David was the Library Officer of the School. David completed Form 5 in 1955 and entered Kumasi College of Technology (KCT) in January 1956 for Sixth Form education. He obtained the Cambridge Higher School Certificate in 1957 and a B.Sc (Eng) degree in Civil Engineering in 1961. He continued his education in University of Toronto, Canada, where he obtained a M.A.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering in 1963 and a Ph.D. degree in Structural Engineering in 1968.
Dr. Tay went to Ghana in 1968 and taught in the Faculty of Engineering at the KNUST. Dr. Tay returned to Toronto, Canada in 1970 and has since worked as a consulting engineer responsible for a large variety of projects, including the award-winning $5.8 billion Hibernia Offshore Oil Platform. Over the years, his assignments and projects took him to several parts of Canada, the United States, eastern and southern African countries, Barbados, France and Norway. Dr. Tay is a registered Professional Engineer in Canada, a Consulting Engineer and a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.
