Darrell Kane

Darrell KaneDarrell Kane never meant to be an author. Though he wanted to be a writer, it took needing the act of writing for him to discover the magic is in the craft and not the result. Writing became a mandatory part of Kane's life when he discovered its valu as a tool in his fight against depression and addiction. The struggle left his life in shreds, but it also changed him into a more grateful and empathetic human. Kane discovered the ability to put words to those things his readers could not, simply by utilizing his need to create his poetry. Everyone longs to know they are not alone in the world and craves proof that someone else is fighting the same fight. Kane's goal became not only surviving his own fight but giving recognition and support to others. His poetry collection Hold Tight & Reach Hard: Poetry and Prose is a selection of confessional and commentary words ranging in theme from the pain of falling apart to the hope of coming together. The book was created from and pays tribute to various life experiences. Kane is originally from Chatham (now called Miramichi) New Brunswick, and now lives in Guelph, Ontario. He is kept company by his two cats, Elliot and Otis, who might be his biggest fans, but since they have the indifference typical of the species, Kane is not sure they even like him. When he is not writing, Kane is an avid cyclist, and a sometimes runner who likes to dabble in the kitchen while stoically ignoring the siren song of potato chips. Read More Read Less
