Darcy PatrickFor 25 years or more, Darcy was a professional bass player playing in many types of bands, teaching and making a living from music. At the same time, he was also working full time in a music store doing repairs to guitars and basses as well as managig the store. In 2013 the perfect storm happened in his life and pushed him over the edge. Darcy had struggled for over 38 years from depression and had to make a call for help, which was one of the most difficult things he had ever done. After a month of intense therapy, his therapist started giving homework. Darcy would hand it in weekly, and they would talk about what he had written and work on changing his negative thoughts, changing the way he was seeing the world, and it was working in ways he never dreamed possible. Darcy's therapist told him he was a natural writer and that if he wrote a book he could change thousands of people's lives who suffered in silence, who were too afraid to reach out and get help. Four years later he released his first book, Why I Run: My Story of How I Won My Life Back From the Darkness of Depression. Since the release of Why I Run, Darcy's life has changed dramatically. He became a public speaker doing talks all around Southern Ontario for many different mental health originations to raise awareness on depression and mental health. His goals are to break the stigma behind depression and mental health, help as many people as he can, and let them know they are not alone. Shortly after the release of Why I Run, people started coming into his place of work, buying the book and talking to him about their struggles, sometimes for the first time. They felt comfortable talking with him, Darcy would help them by listening and pointing them in the right directions, and helping them the best he could. Why I Run has touched thousands of lives. Darcy then went on to write Creative Writing For The Mind, Body & Soul and My Guided Meditation: Using Meditation as a Therapeutic Tool to Focus Your Overactive Mind, and now The Big Let Goo: Letting Go of Control is Taking Control. In just 7 years of therapy, Darcy has turned the one thing in his life that almost destroyed him into the greatest thing that has ever happened to him, giving him a purpose that he never dreamed of having! Darcy's experiences and struggles have made him strong, not weak, and he now lives a life of purpose. That purpose is breaking the stigma behind mental health and helping as many people as he can.
