He is the author of the socially progressive Christian devotional Hero For Christ, and the critically acclaimed picture book How the Fisheran Tricked the Genie. He is descended maternally from mixed-race Revolutionary War soldier Bazabeel Norman (and from Tuskegee Airman Major Henry A. Norman), and paternally from pioneering art-photographer Soichi Sunami.
