Chloé RutzerveldChloé Rutzerveld is a critical food designer who explores and challenges food production and consumption. She is fascinated by nature, the human body and the strange relationship people have with food. Her curiosity and strong urge for hands on exploation causes her to dive deeper into a specific food, system or technology which many people often take for granted.

By combining aspects of design, science and technology Chloé develops future food scenarios in which natural characteristics or specific technologies are used to make our food more efficient, healthy and sustainable. Her work aims to involve and educate consumers about the development of novelty foods in an interesting and understandable way while addressing global food issues at the same time.

Why are we so excited about 3D printed chocolates? Is undigested food not the real core of food waste? And how far are meat-eaters willing to go themselves to continue eating meat in the future? Born and raised in Landgraaf, Chloé moved to Eindhoven in 2011 to study Industrial Design at the Eindhoven University of Technology. After she graduated Cum Laude for the Bachelor of Science in 2014, she founded her food design studio in Eindhoven, Strijp-S. Since then she has been working on self-initiated multidisciplinary research projects with partners like Wageningen University, TNO and DSM, commissioned projects for the High Tech Campus, Triodos bank, BMW, FRAME and Eindhoven Museum and worked as a consultant to provide creative input for Unilever and Vöslauer. Since 2016 Chloé teaches food design as part of the minor gastronomy at the Hotel Management School in Maastricht and had the pleasure to give lectures all over the world to share her out of the box way of thinking and connecting. Starting with a TEDx presentation in Calgary, Canada in 2015 followed by the Global Innovation Conference in Beijing. Other stages were; Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the New Paltz State University of New York, Festival Path Sao Paulo Brazil and the Additive Manufacturing Summit in Singapore.
