Catharina Van LeeuwenThe author studied for her Master's Degree in Biological Sciences at Simon Fraser University where she met her husband, a fellow graduate student. They lived in the Caribbean after graduation during which time she obtained a Diploma in Education fromthe University of the West Indies in Jamaica that enabled her to teach high school biology at a private school in the region. After moving to Barbados the author completed a Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties by distance from the UK which qualified her to tutor dyslexic children at the Caribbean Dyslexia Center.
