Burbaj AbdullaevBurbaj Abdullaev investigated the site of Dzarkutan as a member of the Samarkand Institute of Archaeology's Surkhandarya expedition under the direction of Ahmadali Askarov. He defended his Ph.D. on the excavations of Necropolis 4a in 1980 (published n 1983 in Russian). He left the field for a secondary education teaching position and is now deceased. Kai Kaniuth has worked on the Sapalli Culture, the Uzbek variant of the BMAC, since 1995. He completed his Ph.D. in 2000 with a thesis on the Late Bronze Age metalwork of Central Asia. He is now a senior lecturer at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat Munich, Germany. Mike Teufer completed his Ph.D. in 2006 with a dissertation on Late Bronze Age grave assemblages from Northern Bactria and neighbouring regions.
