Brian D HaydenDr. Brian Hayden is an archaeologist specialising in prehistoric and ethnographic hunter-gatherer societies, having worked in the field for 30 years on research sites in France, Australia, and Canada. His passion is to understand what cultures were lke in the past-especially hunting and gathering cultures-and why they have changed. He obtained his Certificate of Prehistory at the University of Bordeaux and he studied stone-tool making with Australian Aborigines. He has also worked with native groups in the interior of British Columbia excavating a prehistoric winter village at Keatley Creek and recording their traditional food resources. Dr. Hayden is a Professor Emeritus of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University and an Honorary Research Associate of the Anthropology Department at the University of British Columbia. As well as numerous professional journal articles, Hayden has published 18 books including The Power of Feasts and Shamans, Sorcerers, and Saints: A Prehistory of Religion. His research has been recognized by his induction into the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Hayden was born in New York, and now lives on Cortes Island in coastal British Columbia, Canada.
