He is also the author of eighteen books, including The Brigades of Gettysburg (2002), The Roads to Gettysburg (2002), The Artillery of Gettysburg (2008), and many previous Savas Beatie Military Atlas titles on Gettysburg, First Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg Cavalry, Fredericksburg, the Wilderness, and Bristoe Station/Mine Run.
