His traditional education included degrees in accounting and the law; his life education was enriched by memorable encounters with people from all walks of life durin his many travels. A lifelong Midwesterner and admirer of athletic talent both amateur and professional, he liked to celebrate with athletes and other lovers of sport in establishments like the Hill.
