Betty Wiseman

Betty WisemanFor five decades, Betty Wiseman has been an active figure at Belmont University. As a student, coach, and professor, Betty has been a great ambassador for the university and the Department of Athletics. She currently serves as an assistant athletics irector for student services and as the school's senior woman administrator. Betty is professor emerita of the Belmont faculty, with a teaching career of 44 years, and continues to teach part-time in the Department of Sport Science. She has been awarded the two highest honors bestowed on a faculty member: the Chaney Distinguished Professor Award and the Presidential Faculty Achievement Award. She is known as a trailblazer in women's sports, having founded the women's basketball program at Belmont in 1968, one of the first college women's programs in the state of Tennessee and the South. In 2004 she was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, one of many honors bestowed upon her locally and nationally. Betty is an active member of Brentwood Baptist Church in Brentwood, Tennessee, where she serves as trustee, is a member of the adult choir, and is an active participant in volunteer missions. From city streets in Eastern Europe to dirt paths in South America and South Africa, Betty takes teams of Belmont Christian athletes to use the platform of sports for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Betty holds a bachelor of arts degree from Belmont University, a master of arts degree from George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University, and post-master's work from Atlanta University.
