Bessie Mell LaneBessie Mell Lane (1909-2002) was a poet and English teacher originally from Athens, GA. Her poetry appeared in local print media and in her 1993 book SELECTED POEMS (and subsequent editions). Mrs. Lane was the class poet at the Lucy Cobb Institute inAthens and at Converse College where she earned her BA. She taught English at Anderson High School in Anderson, SC, studied graduate-level English at Clemson University, and raised four children. Her husband, Clemson University Professor John D.
