Barbara LamplughBarbara Lamplugh was born and grew up in London. She studied Language and English at York University before moving to Shropshire, where she lived on and off for over twenty-five years. The 'off' parts included an overland trip to Kathmandu in a conveted fire-engine and a journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway followed by several months backpacking around Southeast Asia. She described her travels in Kathmandu by Truck (1976) and Trans-Siberia by Rail (1979), published by Roger Lascelles.Preferring variety to routine, she has worked as a librarian, a project officer for Age Concern, a volunteer bureau organiser, a teacher of English, an editor and translator and a journalist. In 1999, spurred by the challenge of living in a different culture, she headed for Granada in Spain, where she still lives, inspired by views of hills and the Alhambra from her sunny terrace. As a regular features writer for the magazine Living Spain, she contributed around a hundred articles on numerous aspects of life in Spain. She has also written for The Guardian, The Times Educational Supplement and other publications.Although her heart and home are in Granada, she makes frequent visits to the UK to spend time with her children and grandchildren in Bristol and Edinburgh.
